Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[witness | november thirtieth]

CONNECT. . .

Today in the Church we celebrate St. Andrew. Andrew was one of the earliest disciples of Christ, as it shows us in today's Gospel at Mass...

'As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him.' [Matthew 4:18-22]

REFLECT. . .

Andrew and the others in this story followed Jesus straight away. Jesus didn't have to sell the idea to them. They just jumped on board straight away.

Jesus must have had something about him that just drew people to him. Something that doesn't come across on the pages of these stories.

Sometimes when we witness something amazing we just have to respond. Even though it might seem a bit crazy, we know that somehing has changed.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

During this Advent, and throughout our lives, we will witness some amazing things.

Help us to respond in the way we should and help us to let those things change us for the better.

Remind us always that being changed by amazing things is what life and faith are all about!

Amen.
