Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[spirit | december first]

CONNECT. . .

The first line of today's Gospel at Mass tells us that Jesus was filled with joy by the Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit is one of the three persons of the Trinity. In other words, the Holy Spirit is God.

The Spirit came to us at Pentecost, after Jesus had died, rose again and ascended to Heaven.

We are told that the Spirit is there to strengthen us and to support us. When we are weak, the Spirit gives us power. When we are happy, the Spirit adds to our joy.

The Spirit is the loving action of God working in the Church, and working in each individual.

REFLECT. . .

Maybe this Advent you can try to connect a bit more with the Holy Spirit.

Take a few minutes today to pray and to ask for God's Spirit.

Don't get too worried if nothing amazing happens immediately. It doesn't always work that way!

But if you trust in God, his Spirit will be there for you when you need it most.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

At every point in history, and at every point in my life you have had a plan. You don't leave anything to chance.

I thank you for sending you Holy Spirit to be my friend and my guide, and I ask you to work in me again and again.

Be my joy, my light, my life and my smile.

Transform me with your love.

Amen.
