Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[sent | december twentythird]

CONNECT. . .

Today's first Reading at Mass is from an Old Testament Prophet, Malachi. Here is the first line...

'The Lord God says this: Look, I am going to send my messenger to prepare a way before me' [malachi 3:1]

The messenger he is talking about is John the Baptist.

John is a key figure in Advent, as his job was to tell people that Christ was coming.

He was sent ahead to prepare the way.

REFLECT. . .

In a way, the thing that John was sent to do is something that we are all sent to do.

As Christians, we believe that there is so much positive stuff that God could do for our world. He could give people comfort, healing, peace... he could let people know that they were made to be something special, and that their lives have a purpose.

Our job as Christians is to prepare people for this. We probably won't get to do this in the way that John the Baptist did, but there are other ways.

When we get an appropriate opportunity, we might be able to tell our friends why we believe in God.

The rest of the time though, we can prepare the way for God by living the best lives we can and by spreading peace, love and goodness wherever we go.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

You sent John the Baptist to prepare the way for the coming of your Son.

Help me to prepare people for the amazing things that you can give them.

Help me to be somebody who brings the joy and the love that you give to the world.

Amen.
