Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[sainthood | december seventh]

CONNECT. . .

Today in the Church we remember Saint Ambrose, who was a Bishop in Milan and an influential man in the fourth century.

Ambrose was recognised for his ability to help people and for his contribution to how we understand the Catholic faith.

Lots of people have been recognised as Saints over the years. They may seem like an example we can't possibly live up to, but absolutely anybody can do great and saintly things.

REFLECT. . .

During World Youth Day 2000, Pope John Paul II said to the young people gathered,

'Do not be afraid to be the Saints of the new Millenium.'

Being a Saint isn't about being in a great position or being recognised and remembered... Saints like Ambrose are great, but they are Saints first and foremost, because they trusted in God and showed great love...

In ohter words, it's about handling whatever life throws at us with grace and love.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

Give us the power to be the saints in our own time and place. Let us judge wisely, act lovingly and follow humbly.

Amen.
