CONNECT. . .

In today's Gospel reading at Mass, Jesus talks about recognition.

Jesus reminds us that John the Baptist was not recognised for who he was, and he tells his disciples that he too was destined to suffer a similar fate. Both were mistreated, because the people they came to didn't figure out how special they were.

This is a sad and well known story, but it's a story that's not unique to the Gospels.

People are mistreated over and over again in our world. Mostly because people fail to realise how special they are.

REFLECT. . .

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt mistreated?

The answer is almost certainly yes. We all have.

When you were in that situation how did it make you feel?

If you could have told the people who were mistreating you anything about yourself, what would it have been?

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

You made all people to be beautiful, wonderful, gifted and unique. None of your children were a mistake.

Help us never to be too quick to judge a person, but help us to always see what is good and beautful in them.

We hold in our prayers especially today all of those who are suffering abuse or persecution in the more dangerous and troubled parts of the world.

Amen.
