Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[messenger | december sixteenth]

CONNECT. . .

In today's readings at Mass we focus on John the Baptist.

John's job was to prepare the way for Jesus, and so when he heard that Jesus was nearby he sent two messangers to ask Jesus if he was the real deal. When the messengers got to Jesus, they found him healing people. Jesus sent them back to John saying this...

'Go back and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind see again, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear. The dead are raised to life, the Good News is proclaimed to the poor and happy is the man who does not lose faith in me.' [Luke 7: 22-23]

REFLECT. . .

John the Baptist sent messangers in this Gospel story. But of course, John was a messanger himself.

What does it mean to be a messanger?

A messenger is somebody who pays attention and then passes on what he's picked up to others.

As Christians, we are all messangers. We have heard some amazing things about God, and we are charged with passing them on.

We might do this through our words, or through our actions, or through the love and kindness that we show.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

You promised happiness to those who believe in you.

Help us to feel that happiness and joy this Advent, and help us to feel it even more strongly when we celebrate Christmas.

Remind us that we are all your messengers, and help us to be on fire with love for you, so that everything we do shows the world that you are alive, and that you bring real joy!

Amen.
