Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[message | december twentieth]

CONNECT. . .

Today is the Fourth and final Sunday of Advent. It's only a few days now until Christmas.

Today is a good chance to reflect on what the messages of Advent have been...

In Advent, we prepare for Christmas and we prepare for Christ's return.

In Advent, we renew ourselves and ask ourselves if we are ready to celebrate something so amazing. We do this by tackling things about ourselves that need changing.

In Advent, we remember with joy the people in the history of our faith who made it all happen. Not just God and Jesus, but Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist and many others.

REFLECT. . .

Have a think today about the people we have focused on during Advent, and ask yourself which one you most identify with.

There is Mary who said yes to God, and who was so joyful afterwards.

There was Joseph who stood by Mary and looked after the people he loved.

There was John the Baptist who put his own intentions to one side so that he could announce something greater than himself.

And, of course, there was Jesus, who loved his people so much that he just couldn't stay away.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

We thank you for the people you have used over the years and for the messages they have brought.

Help me this Advent to make myself closer to you so that I too may be a person who brings amazing things to others.

Amen.
