Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[mary | december eighteenth]

CONNECT. . .

One of the main people we focus on in the Catholic Church is Mary, the Mother of Christ. Advent is a time when we remember her in a special way, since without her none of it would have happened.

In today's Gospel reading at Mass, we hear about Mary and Joseph from Matthew's Gospel. We hear how Mary conceived a Son through the Holy Spirit and how an angel was sent to Joseph to reassure him and let him know what was going on.

REFLECT. . .

It must have been a worrying time for Mary and Joseph in many ways. They were getting into things that must have seemed way over their heads. They could have said no. They could have ran away. But they chose to stay and they chose to trust. They followed the path God had laid out for them and they let that path lead them wherever God wanted them to go.

Mary especially, is remembered for many things, but the most important thing she did was probably the simplest...

She said YES!

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

You have a path drawn out for my life and you have made plans for my heart.

I may not know what your plan for me is, but I know that if I trust in you, I will have a beautiful, exciting and joyful journey while I'm trying to figure it out.

My prayer today Lord is simple...

When chances to let you work through me come along, let me just say YES!

Amen.
