CONNECT. . .

If you go to Mass today, you will hear a very famous Gospel reading. It's from Luke's Gospel and it shows Mary's reaction shortly after she was told that she would give birth to the Son of God. Here are some extracts:

'My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his lowly servant. And so, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me. Holy is his name. His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. He has shown his strength by dispersing the arrogant and the proud. He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.' [Luke 1:46-53]

Mary's heart was so full of joy that she just had to express it.

REFLECT. . .

Have you ever been so happy about something that you just had to tell somebody? And then somebody else... and then a few txt messages... and then a few more people!?

It's fairly common. When something amazing happens to us, we just can't keep it to ourselves. We have to share it, and we can't do so without our joy coming across to others.

Take a few moments now before saying the final prayer. Close your eyes and think about some of the good things that God has done for you lately. Maybe you can't think of any straight away, but when you look a little deeper, there are probably loads...

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

You did so much for Mary, and you gave her a heart full of joy to share it all with others. That's why we remember her. Because of the joy she showed you.

Help me to realise where you are working in my life and help me to show the same infectious joy as Mary.

I also pray today for those who don't believe in you. Help them to see the joy too!

Amen.
