Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[listen | december eleventh]

CONNECT. . .

Today's First Reading at Mass says this:

I, the Lord, your God, teach you what is good for you. I lead you in the way that you must go. If only you had listened to my commandments, your happiness would have flowed like a river. [Isaiah 48:18]

A lot of the time in the Bible, God has to tell people off for not having listened. We see this in both of today's readings.

All through history God tried to tell people what was right and good for them, and all throughout history, people ignored him and turned away.

REFLECT. . .

As human beings we have a funny habit of knowing what we should be doing and then completely ignoring it.

Is there anything in your life that you should be doing that you often find a way to get out of?

Advent is a time to prepare ourselves and make ourslves better and stronger. So maybe one of the most helpful things we cna do over the next few weeks is just to pick a few areas of our lives where we know we are doing the wrong thing, and to try to change it.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

By myself I am weak. I make the wrong decisions and I am persuaded by the wrong things.

With you at my side, I can do anything. Help me this Advent, Lord, to do the things I know I should do and to stay away form the things I know I shouldn't. Let me use this time of preparing to make myself a better person.

Help me this Advent

Amen.
