Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[joy | december thirteenth]

CONNECT. . .

Today is the Third Sunday of Advent. We're about half way through.

The Third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete Sunday. The word Gaudete means Rejoice.

Advent is a season of preparation. Rather than celebrating, it's a time to prepare ourslves and to make sure that we are ready.

The Church puts Gaudete Sunday in the middle of Advent to encourage us to keep going and to remind us that we are waiting for something that's going to be pretty amazing!.

REFLECT. . .

You can't go to a party unless you're ready. You can't celebrate something unless you know what it means.

Before any great celebration in the Church we have a time to prepare ourselves. By doing this we can be sure that we really get what it is that we are celebrating. Otherwise, it might pass us by and lose all its meaning.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

Help me to be happy this day and to remember what lies at the end of Advent... the birth of your Son and the joy he brought to the world.

May I always be a person who brings joy to others, and who knows what it means to be truly happy.

Amen.
