[honoured | december twentyfirst]

CONNECT. . .

Today's Gospel at Mass tells us the story of the Visitation.

While Mary was expecting Jesus, her cousin Elizabeth was expecting John the Baptist at the same time.

The Visitation is recalled in Luke's Gospel. Mary went to visit Elizabeth and the child in Elizabeth's womb lept for joy when she got close. The baby knew that something special was coming and it made him happy.

When Mary approached, Elizabeth greeted her with joy and asked:

'Why should I be honoured with a visit form the Mother of my Lord.' [Luke 1:43]

REFLECT. . .

Elizabeth felt honoured that Mary came to see her.

What does it mean to be honoured?

Surely one of the biggest honours we can have is when somebody cares about us enough to spend time with us.

Spend some time today thinking about all the people who have honoured you lately?

Has anybody spent time with you, or said something kind to you, or helped you out, or even just given you a smile?

Sometimes the greatest honours are the simplest things.

Maybe today, you can spend a bit of time with somebody who would appreciate it?

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

I don't want to be a person who only appreciates the big and extraordinary things in life. If I become like that, then I'll miss so much beautiful stuff in between.

Help me to feel honoured by the love shared with those I love.

Help me to feel honoured that you made me, and that you love me.

Amen.
