Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[cross | december fourteenth]

CONNECT. . .

Today is the Catholic Church, we celebrate Saint John of the Cross.

John was a Friar who took on the job of reforming the Carmelites, which was the group that he belonged to.

John's ideas weren't really listened to and he suffered a lot a the hands of the Church authorities who thought that was a little bit dangerous and mad.

Like Christ, he knew that he had to do something that wasn't easy. He knew he would have to suffer, but he did it anyway.

He knew that his task was important and he knew that people were relying on him.

REFLECT. . .

When we think about the cross we think about so many things.

Maybe one of the things we think about is duty... the fact that sometimes we have to do things, even if they're really hard.

Advent is about keeping going and keeping our eyes on the prize. Just like the cross, Advent reminds us that some journeys - some tasks - are really important.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

When I meet challenges and difficult times in life, help me not to give up.

Help me to grow stronger form the challenge, and help me to rejoice when I get to the end.

In all things, help me never to forget that you are there by my side, loving me, and cheering me on!

Amen.
