Advent 2009 | A&B Catholic Youth Service

[advent | november twenty-nineth]

CONNECT. . .

Some stories are so important and so good that they get told again and again and again...

We all have favourite movies that we like to take out and watch from time to time, and we all have photos on our computers or in albums that we look through with friends.

Great stories and great memories have to be told and they have to be shared. They just can't be left behind.

The start of Advent is the beginning of the Church's year, and it's a chance to relive the stories of our faith. From now until Pentecost, the Masses help us to remember everything from the birth of Jesus to his death, his resurrection and his ascension. In other words, we get to celebrate the whole story once again. We get the chance to think about what it means to us, we get to remember the parts we had forgotten, and we get to ask ourselves what it is saying to us about our lives today.

REFLECT. . .

Whenever we start something new there are certain things that we ask ourselves...

Why am I starting this thing? How did I get here? Why do I want to go any further?

We wouldn't be able to celebrate Advent if God hadn't come into the world, and God wouldn't have come into the world if he didn't care about us.

As for you... you wouldn't be able to celebrate Advent if somebody hadn't taken the time to tell you about all these things and about how important they are.

PRAY. . .

Loving Father,

We thank you today for the things that have brought us to the start of this journey.

We thank you for the parents, teachers, priests and friends who gave us faith.

We thank you for coming into our world, and we thank you for everything you do in our lives.

Help us this Advent to be open to the stories of our faith, and to grow richer from hearing them once again.

Amen.
